Summer is sometimes our outlet of trying something new or going somewhere new. The latter has always been the most fun and exciting and coolest and many-to-mention of the two. One of the very good things of having to live in a tropical country is the feeling of forever summer vibe. Instead of beaches and white sand bars, how about planning a quick getaway, just a day to the City of Majestic Waterfalls?

Fall in love with Iligan City’s Waterfalls: Tinago Falls

Iligan City with whopping 23 waterfalls is a first class city in the province of Lanao del Norte. It is more or less a two-hour drive via bus (Php85) from Cagayan de Oro City. Upon arriving to the city proper, you will definitely appreciate its classic, vintage feels. There are streets where kalesa (horse-drawn carriage) ride is still available and yes, you can hop on it for Php5 and will take you from city proper to Tambacan and vice versa.

A great beauty and splendor is hidden at the Municipality of Linamon, the Tinago Falls. According to locals, legend has it that the jaw-dropping falls was once an ugly maiden. The king and queen of the land, her parents were greedy of their power. Because of their unpleasant attitude towards the poor and the needy, the enchantress cursed the queen who was pregnant that time. The baby was born somewhat ugly. The king and queen were so ashamed that they chose to hide her in a cave and named her Tin-ag. In spite of them hiding her, they still cared for her. Fast forward, she grew older and that was the time she went out on the cave. The enchantress saw her innocence and felt pity on her. She then transformed her into a beautiful waterfall, from a shameful feature to a renowned magnificence.

To reach the falls and experience its grandeur, you have to go down an approximately 500 steps winding staircase. The sweat and effort you spent are worth it if you get to swim in the cold water with the waters blown by the wind. Undeniably, a beautiful sight, a refreshing breathes of air and a relaxing time with nature for only Php10
entrance fee. Cottages rate at Php100 and life jackets to be rented at Php20 (price rates are subject to change over time).
